WhatsApp Introduces Streamlined Message Reactions for Users

WhatsApp is launching new features and design enhancements aimed at improving the speed and creativity of messaging. Starting today, users can now react to messages by simply double-tapping instead of the previous tap-and-hold method. This new update introduces a convenient scrolling pop-out menu featuring the most used emojis, replacing the standard selection that was previously available.

This improvement is reminiscent of Discord's feature, which allows users to quickly access their favorite emojis, eliminating the need to sift through an extensive list. Users will still have the option to select other emojis by clicking on the plus symbol in the reaction bar. Unlike WhatsApp, Meta’s Messenger currently offers only five fixed emojis for reactions, a feature many hope will see similar upgrades in the future.

Enhancing Visual Communication

WhatsApp is expanding its visual communication capabilities with the introduction of filters and virtual backgrounds, features that were previously available on video calls. Users can now apply 30 different visual effects to photos or videos taken in chats, offering a new level of personalization.

Additionally, the platform now allows for direct sharing of sticker packs in chats, and users can convert their selfies into personalized stickers by selecting the sticker icon. Currently, this feature is available on Android devices, with iOS compatibility expected to be rolled out soon according to the company.
