Spy Pics Reveal Tesla Model Y's Refresh Testing

Spy photo of Tesla Model Y refresh

Recent photographs shared on social media platforms have unveiled images of the revamped Tesla Model Y, codenamed "Juniper." The refreshed design abandons the original Model 3 headlight style for a front lightbar bearing resemblance to the Chevy Equinox EV. According to reports from car spy accounts on Instagram and X, these images show the updated Model Y navigating through snowy terrain.

Design Changes

Though the images are somewhat indistinct, they also reveal a redesigned rear end featuring a lightbar reminiscent of the Cybertruck and similar to a previous leak in July.

Development Timeline

Initial reports from earlier in 2023 indicated that Tesla was working on revamping the Model Y, with sightings of a test vehicle featuring camouflaged front and rear ends occurring last year. As one of the world's top-selling vehicles, the Model Y is the last of Tesla’s lineup to maintain the use of stalks for gear shifting and turn signals.

Upcoming Features

Since its launch in 2020, the Model Y has remained largely the same, except for a center console update. Its redesign is timely, considering Tesla's most recent refresh of the Model 3 "Highland," which was introduced in the U.S. last year with changes to the vehicle's front, rear, and improvements for quieter performance and better ride quality.

Although the precise launch date for the updated Model Y is not confirmed, past reports have hinted at the production of a new six-seater Model Y in China by late 2025.
