Philips Introduces Advanced Palm Recognition Smart Lock with Integrated Video Camera
At the CES 2025 event, Philips Home Access unveiled an upgraded version of its leading 5000 Series smart lock, which first gained attention last year. This enhanced model now integrates video capabilities alongside its pioneering palm vein recognition system.
Philips 5000 Series Video Palm Recognition Smart Lock
The latest Philips 5000 Series smart lock combines its unique palm vein recognition with a 1080p video system, enabling users to see visitors at their doorstep. This innovation effectively merges the functions of a video doorbell with a smart lock.
Palm vein recognition is a biometric technology that examines an individual's vein patterns in the palm to verify their identity. The Philips 5000 Series employs this method to secure homes by unlocking only for recognized individuals.
This technology boasts an advantage over fingerprint recognition due to the stability and uniqueness of palm veins, which are maintained throughout a person's lifetime even if external conditions affect fingerprint clarity.
The 5000 Series also offers convenience through its Wi-Fi connectivity, eliminating the need for an additional smart hub. It is compatible with popular voice assistants like Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, which allow for effortless voice control and remote management.
4000 Series Smart Deadbolt
Introducing another innovation, Philips Home Access launched its first Matter-compatible device, the 4000 Series Smart Deadbolt. This device uses Matter over Thread technology to ensure seamless integration with other Matter-supported smart home platforms such as Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, Google Nest, and Samsung SmartThings.
Availability
Both the 5000 Series Video Palm Recognition Smart Lock and the 4000 Series Smart Deadbolt are slated for release in the second half of 2025, with pricing details to be announced soon.
