Motorola Unveils Rugged and Affordable Moto G Phones for 2025

Motorola has announced exciting updates to its Moto G series with the introduction of the 2025 models, particularly emphasizing durability and affordability. The newly launched Moto G Power stands out with its impressive IP69 water-resistance rating, offering rugged protection at a cost of just $299.99.

Enhanced Durability Features

The Moto G Power for 2025 combines both IP68 and IP69 certifications. This marks it as being able to withstand immersion in water and exposure to high-pressure water jets and steam, while also blocking out dust completely. Previously, such extreme tolerance was reserved for specialized rugged phones. Interestingly, Motorola has achieved this robust protection at a remarkably lower price point than recent competitors, such as the OnePlus 13, which is priced at $899.

Additional Toughness Credentials

Similar to the 2023 ThinkPhone, the new G Power has also passed the stringent MIL-STD-810H certification. This ensures resilience against harsh environmental conditions, including surviving falls from nearly four feet, temperatures ranging from -4 to 140 degrees Fahrenheit, and humidity levels up to 95%. These specifications make it tougher than most users generally require, providing an extra level of reassurance.

Design and Technical Specifications

Measuring less than 9mm thick, the Moto G Power is surprisingly slim for a phone with such rugged properties. Its 6.8-inch LCD display, shielded by Gorilla Glass 5, matches the size of Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra. Complementing its design is a large 5,000mAh battery, supporting wireless charging, and a 3.5mm headphone jack, a rare feature for phones in 2025.

Comparison with the Moto G

Alongside the G Power, Motorola also introduced the $199.99 Moto G, which shares a similar design with a slightly smaller 6.7-inch display and limits itself to IP52 protection with Gorilla Glass 3. Despite these differences, both models utilize the same MediaTek chipset and feature comparable 50-megapixel rear cameras.

Software and Availability

The main challenge for Motorola remains the software aspect, as previous iterations were cluttered with bloatware. Fans hope for improvements in this area with the 2025 versions. The Moto G will be available online from January 30th, followed by the G Power on February 6th, with availability across major carriers to follow.
