Meta Plans to Lay Off More Underperforming Employees
Meta, the company behind some of the most groundbreaking technologies worldwide, is gearing up for an intense year. It is striving to excel in fields like artificial intelligence, glasses as a potential new computing platform, and the future landscape of social media. This vision is backed by a strategic shake-up in personnel, as indicated by CEO Mark Zuckerberg's recent announcement regarding staff changes.
"I've decided to raise the bar on performance management and move out low-performers faster," Zuckerberg stated, emphasizing a shift in how the company handles those not meeting expectations. Traditionally, Meta has removed such employees over a year-long evaluation period, but this current cycle will see more swift performance-based dismissals, with plans to refill these positions by 2025. For those employees who show potential for improved performance, there may still be a chance to stay, but for others, the exit package will be as "generous" as previous instances of workforce reduction.
Meta plans to brief managers with additional guidelines before conducting evaluations. Affected employees will begin to receive notifications from February 10, with international notifications following the U.S. timeframe.
Zuckerberg acknowledged the difficulty in letting employees go, but he remains confident that these actions will fortify Meta's capabilities in creating cutting-edge technology crucial for the future of human connectivity.
