Meta Develops Community Notes Feature for Threads

Meta is preparing to introduce a Community Notes feature in Threads, as part of its shift away from traditional fact-checking methods. Alessandro Paluzzi, a self-proclaimed "leaker," provided visual insights into this upcoming feature by releasing screenshots that reveal what users might expect.

The screenshots suggest that users will have the ability to initiate the creation of a Community Note via the three-dots menu on any post. This menu already offers options like account muting and reporting posts. Notably, when a user drafts a Community Note, it will be submitted anonymously, a design choice likely aimed at encouraging more candid contributions.

Additional screenshots present a purported Instagram help center page dedicated to Community Notes, complete with a waitlist registration button. However, the page's appearance contrasts with other currently live help center pages, indicating potential early development stages or a testing phase.

As of now, Meta has not responded to inquiries regarding further details about Community Notes.

According to Meta's recent statement, they plan to gradually introduce Community Notes in the United States over the coming months, with ongoing improvements expected throughout the year. However, the specific launch timeline for Threads remains undisclosed. It was reported that the Community Notes initiative was absent from Meta's product roadmap until recently.

Apart from this development, Meta is easing "a number of restrictions" on several sensitive topics such as immigration and gender. The company is also reintroducing "civil content" on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Threads. Furthermore, Instagram's head, Adam Mosseri, has released a video tutorial illustrating how users can manage the volume of political content they encounter on Threads.
