iPhone Air Could Arrive Later This Year

Introduction of the iPhone Air

Apple may be gearing up to launch a new product, the iPhone 17 Air, according to industry insider Mark Gurman. This new model is expected to be unveiled in the fall as a part of Apple's innovative lineup, as reported in Gurman's recent newsletter. It's being positioned as "a testing ground for future technologies," particularly for advancements that could lead to Apple’s first foldable devices.

Design and Specifications

The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to follow the naming pattern of the MacBook Air and iPad Air, indicating a focus on thinness. Reports suggest it will be "about 2 millimeters thinner" than current iPhone models. Recent speculations place its thickness between 5.5mm and 6.25mm, making it comparable to the M4 iPad Pro and thinner than any previous iPhone, including the iPhone 6.

Technological Innovations

Aside from its sleek design, the iPhone 17 Air is reportedly a step towards future foldable technology. It may also debut Apple’s in-house modem, codenamed Sinope, which will first appear in the iPhone SE this spring. Moreover, there is an expectation that the upcoming iPhone series will introduce Apple-designed Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips, although it's unclear if the iPhone 17 Air will include these.

Display and Camera Features

The iPhone 17 Air is expected to boast a 6.6-inch ProMotion OLED display, featuring Apple's 120Hz variable refresh rate, previously exclusive to Pro models. Regarding the camera setup, insiders predict it will include a single 48-megapixel rear camera alongside a 24-megapixel front-facing camera. Powered by Apple's A19 chip and equipped with 8GB of RAM, it is anticipated to support advanced AI features similar to those in the iPhone SE 4.
