How to Disable Apple Intelligence Notification Summaries

How to Disable Apple Intelligence Notification Summaries

With iOS 18, Apple introduced a new feature within the Apple Intelligence suite that leverages artificial intelligence to condense notifications. This means that when multiple notifications from the same app arrive, they are bundled into a single summary card on the lock screen. Users have the option to either dismiss the summary once reviewed or tap to view each individual notification in detail.

However, the summarization tool does not always perform accurately. There have been instances of comical outputs, and more concerning are the occasional errors in capturing the essence of the notifications, leading to visible inaccuracies. If you find these summaries more confusing than helpful, you can choose to disable the feature or adjust its settings.

On iPhone/iPad

To customize or disable notification summaries on an iPhone or iPad, navigate to Settings, select Notifications, then tap on the Summarize Notifications tab. You have the option to turn off AI-powered summaries altogether for all applications by toggling the setting at the top of the page. Alternatively, you may choose to disable the summaries for each app individually.

On Mac

Mac users can click on the Apple menu in the top left corner, go to System Settings, then Notifications. By choosing the Summarize Notifications tab, you can disable the feature entirely. As with mobile devices, you can opt to turn off summaries for selected apps.

Currently, there's no functionality to disable notification summaries by specific application categories such as news, productivity, utility, shopping, travel, and finance.

In January, Apple announced plans to release a software update aimed at better notifying users when AI is involved in generating notification summaries, acknowledging the possibility of errors in the process.
