DJI's New Foldable Camera Drone, Flip, Priced at $439
Just four months after debuting the palm-sized Neo, DJI returns with another compact offering — the Flip, a fully foldable drone emphasizing portability. This new model aligns with DJI's ongoing interest in foldable designs, featuring propeller guards that stack neatly for easy transportation.
Balance of Simplicity and Capability
The Flip is described by DJI as combining "the simplicity of the DJI Neo with the stunning photo capabilities of the DJI Mini." With a price tag of $439, it positions itself closer to the Mini 3, priced at $419, while still considerably more expensive than the Neo at $199.
Aimed at Photographers and Videographers
This new addition targets photographers and videographers seeking an efficient solution for outdoor shoots. The Flip handles 4K video at 60 frames per second and offers a 100fps slow-motion option. For still photography, it captures images at 48 megapixels with up to 4x zoom.

Weight and Battery Life
Weighing in at 249 grams, the Flip matches the Mavic Mini's weight, though it carries more heft compared to the Neo's 135 grams. This extra weight is justified by an improved battery life, offering up to 31 minutes per charge versus the Neo's 18, a significant advantage for those engaged in videography.
Innovative Features
Additional features of the Flip include automatic braking to prevent high altitude collisions, along with enhanced charging and data transfer speeds. DJI also introduces a Local Data Mode, akin to airplane mode on smartphones, enabling disconnection from the internet during flights.
Launch and Future Prospects
The drone is slated for shipping starting Tuesday in the U.S. However, uncertainty looms over DJI's longer-term ability to market its products in the U.S. amidst ongoing regulatory challenges.
