Astrohaus Introduces Freewrite Wordrunner Keyboard with Innovative Features

Astrohaus Freewrite Wordrunner Keyboard

Astrohaus has unveiled the Freewrite Wordrunner, the latest addition to its line of distraction-reducing writing tools, at CES. Unlike previous all-in-one models that pair a keyboard with basic monochromatic screens, the new Wordrunner is a standalone mechanical keyboard designed to enhance focus and efficiency for writers.

The Freewrite Wordrunner is anticipated to launch preorders in February 2025 via Kickstarter. While pricing is yet to be announced, it's likely to be more affordable than Astrohaus's integrated devices, which range from $349 to $999. Early backers can secure a $1 refundable reservation for "priority access" and exclusive early-bird pricing.

The Wordrunner features a tenkeyless design constructed from robust die-cast aluminum and includes high-quality tactile switches with backlighting. Its sound-dampening layers make it suitable for use in shared environments without creating distractions.

Distinctively, the Wordrunner boasts two electromechanical counters on its top edge. The "Wordometer" continuously tracks word count until reset, while the second counter operates as a timer for productivity sessions, enhanced with subtle LED indicators.

A redesigned function row offers keys for rapid document navigation and editing. This includes undo, redo, paragraph navigation, and shortcuts to the start or end of a page. Additionally, three macro keys labeled "zap," "pow," and "bam" can be customized to meet individual writing preferences.

Media controls are handled by a unique red joystick that allows track skipping and volume adjustments through directional movements.

For connectivity, the Wordrunner supports seamless switching between up to four devices. It connects to three devices via Bluetooth and a fourth through USB-C, providing versatility across computers and mobile platforms. An extended wrist rest further enhances user comfort.
